Prevent colds and flu this winter
Follow these precautions to stay free of colds and
flu this winter:
- Wash your hands often. Your hands can pick up cold
and flu viruses from a variety of objects, including
doorknobs.
- Stop a runny nose with an antihistamine, such as
Tavist-1 or Chlor-Trimeton. This keeps mucus from
building up inside your nose and keeps you from blowing
your nose frequently.
- Avoid unnecessary contact with individuals who have
upper-respiratory infections.
- Take care of yourself. Your risk for colds and flu
increases with stress, excessive fatigue and poor
nutrition.
- Get a flu shot. Individuals who are over 50 should
have an annual flu shot, especially if they have chronic
heart or lung disease.
