Are you at risk for diabetes?
Are you one of the individuals who could be at risk
for diabetes yet don't know it? You are at risk for
diabetes if you:
- Are overweight
- Get little or no exercise on a daily basis
- Are between 45 and 64 years of age (your risk is
even higher if you are over 65)
- Have a parent or sibling with diabetes
- Are a woman who had diabetes while you were pregnant
or had a baby weighing more than nine pounds at birth
- Have low HDL cholesterol (less than 35)
- Have high triglycerides (greater than 250)
- Have high blood pressure (140/90 or above)
Talk to your health care provider about your risk factors
and how you can make lifestyle changes to reduce your
risk for diabetes.
