Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center (EMRMC) is pleased to recognize and honor one of its nurses for her extraordinary patient care. America Burkhart, R.N., M.S.N., a nurse in the Critical Care Unit at EMRMC, was one of 27 nurses nominated for the DAISY Award. A resident of Lincoln County, America has been caring for patients at EMRMC for 12 years.
She was nominated by a co-worker who describes America’s actions when she cared for a critically ill patient and comforted the patient’s family. The co-worker said “A patient was critically ill and America handled the situation with such grace. She gave the family hope and dignity in dealing with their mother. She treated each and every family member with respect and the utmost care and concern. At the end of her shift, America left the family with hugs and words of concern. She was off work the next day and she came in to check on the patient and family. The family told me how much that meant to them. It showed that even though America wasn’t physically caring for the patient that day, she was still showing she cared.”
Ephraim McDowell is proud to recognize nurses with the Daisy Award, a national program that honors the compassionate care and clinical excellence that nurses bring to their patients every day. Nomination forms for the DAISY Award are available at various locations throughout EMRMC and Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital and online at www.emhealth.org.
