Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital nurse

Gayle Reed, R.N., house supervisor and registered nurse is now a certified emergency nurse (CEN).  Reed achieved this through the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA).  The CEN certification is specific to emergency nursing and verifies the attainment of a nursing knowledge as it relates to that particular area of nursing.
To earn certification, Reed was required to take and successfully complete the CEN certification exam.  Certification recognizes her specialized knowledge, skills and experience. She has worked at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital since 1985.

McDowell Wellness Center will offer Women’s only boot camp for overweight women

McDowell Wellness Center is offering a women’s only Boot Camp specifically designed to help overweight women get in shape while losing weight.
The Boot Camp will begin Monday, August 15, meeting from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for six weeks.  At the initial class, participants will weigh, check their body-fat percentage and take body measurements.
Campers will participate in a variety of classes such as weights and conditioning, kick boxing, pool workouts, nutrition and outdoor running and walking sessions.  Each participant will have a one-on-one session with a registered dietician at McDowell Wellness Center.  All campers will weigh in weekly and keep a food journal.
At the end of the camp a grand prize consisting of a one-month McDowell Wellness Center membership, three half-hour personal training sessions, one counseling session with a registered dietician and a 30-minute massage will be given to the participant who loses the largest percentage of body weight.
The cost is $100 for Wellness Center members and $125 for non-members.  Class size is limited, so advance sign-up is recommended.

McDowell Wellness Center offering Fit Kids class

McDowell Wellness Center announces another session of its popular Fit Kids class, beginning September 6.  The classes will include cardiovascular endurance, strength conditioning and muscle endurance, flexibility training, body image and water safety.  Sessions will be in the aerobics studio, outside and in the pool.
The class meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and lasts four weeks. The class is for children ages 8 through 12. 
The cost is $35 for children of current Wellness Center members or $50 for children whose parents are not members.

Ephraim McDowell Health President/CEO serving on Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) Legislative Committee

Vicki A. Darnell, president and CEO, Ephraim McDowell Health, was recently asked to serve on the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) Legislative Committee.
The KHA Legislative Committee is charged with prioritizing the association’s legislative and regulatory policy activities and positions that advance the interests of Kentucky hospitals.  The Legislative Committee helps direct KHA policy objectives and efforts, and advises the KHA Board on the association’s state and federal legislative priorities.  The Legislative Committee provides the policy guidance necessary for a strong legislative program where members can receive and exchange positions regarding policy and regulatory issues to ensure the strength of hospitals and health care systems in Kentucky.
