At Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, we know that diabetes is a complex, prevalent, and potentially debilitating disease. Within Kentucky, diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death, and the state ranks seventh in the nation for the highest percentage of adults diagnosed with diabetes.
Our Diabetes and Endocrinology Center provides individualized treatment programs and education for those with:
* Adult onset diabetes
* Juvenile diabetes
* Pregnancy-related diabetes
Referral to the Diabetes and Endocrinology Center is especially recommended for diabetic patients with:
* A1C greater than 8%
* Total daily insulin greater than 100 units
* Three or more injections daily, or use of an insulin pump
Our multi-disciplinary team includes endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators and registered dietitians who work with you and your primary care provider to develop an individualized plan of care.
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center also offers Diabetes Self-Management Classes to assist individuals in learning how to manage their diabetes. Classes are provided by registered dietitians and nurses who are certified diabetes educators. The Diabetes Management program is accredited through the American Diabetes Association. This allows the services to be covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most major insurance companies when a patient enrolls with a doctor's order.
We also have comprehensive services for managing all types of other endocrine system conditions, such as thyroid problems and pituitary irregularities that affect body growth in children.
