Ephraim McDowell Spine Physical Therapy

If you are recovering from an injury, illness or surgery involving your spine or back, Ephraim McDowell Spine Physical Therapy can help you return to maximum functional ability.

We care for people of all ages who have a variety of spinal conditions:

  • degenerative disc disease
  • chronic/acute low back pain
  • numbness/tingling in the arms or legs
  • spinal stenosis
  • herniated or bulging discs
  • sprain or strain
  • assisting with post-surgical recovery
  • whiplash/motor vehicle accident injuries
  • headaches
  • pregnancy-related low back pain
  • sacroiliac or pelvic dysfunction

Our physical therapists focus on restoring your movement and function, relieving pain and preventing future injury. They start by evaluating your condition:

  1. taking a detailed history of your pain and symptoms
  2. assessing muscle strength, flexibility, joint mobility, neurologic integrity, balance and coordination
  3. observing specific movement patterns
  4. administering other specialized tests

The results are used to administer a variety of treatment regimens, including therapeutic exercise to assist you in relieving pain and returning to your normal daily tasks.

Our treatments consist of hands-on techniques to improve alignment, assist with pain relief, decrease irritation, reduce muscle tension and stress on your muscles, as well as specific, targeted exercises to strengthen and stabilize the affected area.

Ephraim McDowell Spine Physical Therapy patients have access to the pool at McDowell Wellness Center. For many muscular and neurologic diseases, aquatic treatment can help reduce pain, decrease pressure on the nervous system and allow strengthening that otherwise may provoke pain in a traditional, land-based therapeutic program.
