 This fund-raiser will benefit the Chaplain's Discretionary Fund, provided through the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation.  Items will be available for bidding in the hospital lobby.  Donations of new items will be accepted through Oct. 25 by calling extension 1214.

Heartburn Center opens at RCH

Russell County Hospital has recently opened a Heartburn Center after investing in technology to diagnose heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD.  The Heartburn Center offers non-invasive testing for diagnosing heartburn and reflux disease, including pH monitoring.  That test uses a vitamin-size capsule that is attached to the patient's esophagus.  The capsule measures the pH levels in the esophagus and transmits this information to a pager-sized receiver worn on the patient's waistband.

Fort Logan's United Way Fun Week

Fort Logan Hospital Associates are invited to participate in Fun Week activities, October 25-29, for United Way:

Monday:  Lighting of the Torch in the courtyard and a Wheelchair Race

Tuesday: Commode Throw and Diaper the Baby Relay

Wednesday:Blood and Guts Gluttony and Witches and Warlocks Race

Thursday:  Urine Specimen Relay and Scope the Digestive System

Friday:  Grand Finale and Dress-Up Day with prizes to the Funniest, Ugliest, Prettiest, Most Original and Best Group Theme.  Bedpan Discus concludes activities.

 

Auxiliary presents check to EMRMC

Gail Louis, president of the EMRMC Auxiliary, presented a check in the amount of $105,000 to Barry Michael, president, at its general meeting on October 11.  The check represented funds donated to the hospital by the Auxiliary as payment for the recent expansion  and renovation of the Gift Shop.

We exceeded our goal!!!

 The Ephraim McDowell Health system's 2004 goal for the ñWould you return?î question on patient satisfaction surveys was a 98.18 percent ñyesî rating.  Our actual percentage was 98.24!!!  The goal for 2005 has been set at 98.25 percent.  Let's continue to work hard to meet our new goal.

Auxiliary Annual Luncheon

Friday, November 12

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Cost:  $5.00

The annual luncheon is sponsored by the EMRMC Auxiliary and will be at the Centenary United Methodist Church Life Center.  The menu will feature chili, choice of pimento cheese or chicken salad sandwich, homemade pie and drink.  The luncheon will also feature the historic Nannie Rankin quilt raffle.

Green Thumb program at EMRMC

Volunteer Vivian Kincaid is managing the Green Thumb program at EMRMC,  a beautification partnership between the Auxiliary and the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation.  She will be at the hospital twice weekly to take care of live green plants and seasonal plants that are now in public areas on all floors of the hospital. 

Healthy Lifestyles for Kids

McDowell Wellness Center is offering a six-week weight management and exercise program for children ages 10 to 12.  The class begins November 4 with classes each Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. through December 16.  No class on Thanksgiving.  Cost is $50 per person, with need-based tuition assistance available through the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation.  Space is limited.  For more information, please call (859)936-9355.

United Way Campaign Wrap-Up;ïShaving Party' with Clark Taylor

 Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center will have its United Way Wrap-Up Party on Friday, October 29, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Private Dining Room.  Come and enjoy nachos and cheese and find out the results of this year's campaign! 

Friday, October 29, is also the day for EMRMC's Shaving Party with Clark Taylor.  ñVotesî are still being taken in the jars in the Cafeteria to determine what colors Clark will dye his beard on Thursday, October 28 - either blue and white (Danville's school colors) or black and gold (Boyle County's school colors).  Your ñvoteî is more money for United Way!

Prostate cancer screenings

The Central Kentucky Cancer Program (CKCP) in partnership with the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation sponsored prostate cancer screenings in September at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Russell County Hospital, Fort Logan Hospital and Liberty Family Medical Center.  A total of 162 men participated in the free screenings, with 21 identified as needing follow-up.

 

RCH observes National Boss' Day

Pat  Ekdahl,  president  at  Russell  County  Hospital,  was honored Friday, October 15, with a luncheon in recognition of National Boss' Day.  Associates enjoyed  a bountiful meal as well as fellowship.
