Clark's Comments It seems in our life that it is a struggle to acquire the things we need and
want. Part of the motivation
to acquire things is the desire to provide our children and grandchildren
with things we did not have when we were kids.
A less noble motivation to acquire things is to have what we see
other people like us have. Things are good. Some things
make our life easier. Some
things make our life more enjoyable. Have
you seen the bumper sticker that says, ÒThe man who wins is the one with
the most toysÓ? Things,
however, are not the measure of a person. Our health system is, by necessity, full of things.
We could not do our work without the many things ø from surgical
instruments to desktop work stations to maintenance tools to mops.
All are critical things to doing our work.
Everyone who comes to us for service expects we have all of the
things needed to do our work, but the best things at Ephraim McDowell
Health are not things. The
best things at EMH are the Associates motivated by a mission and living
our FIRST values. That is what
makes a difference in a place of healing.
That is what makes a difference in job satisfaction.
That is what is extraordinary about you. Clark

Mission
and Values By
Tim Noel, Chief Mission Officer I don't usually read
National Geographic Adventure
magazine, since the most adventuresome thing I seem to do these days is to
cross Third Street, but recently I found an article that listed tips for
survival. Several of the words
of advice apply to life in general, such as rule number five: ÒCelebrate
your success.Ó Being able to
celebrate even the smallest of victories Òhelps keep motivation high and
prevents a lethal plunge into despair.Ó
So if you want to survive in a stressful job, learn to celebrate
not only your own achievements, but also the successes of those around
you. You will be surprised at
how much it helps. |
Volunteers needed The Central Kentucky Cancer Program's annual Help Make a Difference Triathlon is Saturday, September 11, beginning at 9 a.m. at McDowell Wellness Center. Stairwell Bulletin Board Etiquette Do
you have something at home that you want to sell?
Or perhaps you are involved in a community activity that you want
to share information about? The
bulletin boards in the stairwells at EMRMC are for Associates' display
of personal advertisements. Please
follow these tips when posting information on the bulletin boards: á
Date your flyer at the time you
place it on the bulletin board. (You
may pencil it in one corner). Items
will be removed from the board after one month or after the event has
taken place. á
Keep in mind that inappropriate
material may be removed. This
would include material that is political, religious or commercial in
nature. A Communications Center bulletin board located adjacent to the Cafeteria includes announcements about upcoming classes for Associates. Please do not display personal advertisements on this board.

Kudos to our staff Thanks to Tracey Perkins in Human Resources for keeping the locked display
cases on all units updated with current information.
The displayed items are presented in an attractive format. Dru
Hall As a new Associate, I was very impressed with the orientation process.
I found myself many times with tears in my eyes because I was so
touched by the presenters. I
cannot say enough about Dianna Devine in Human Resources and the kindness
she showed me. The staff makes
a good impression. Anonymous
I appreciated all the help given me by Sharon Clark and the OB Staff at

class, and also for answering all of my many questions.
It has made a big difference in me breastfeeding successfully. Lisa
