Pat's Points

I recently picked up this item from a Bob Tucker Leadership Seminar, and thought it would be appropriate for our system.

10 Commandments of Human Relations

1.         Speak to people.  There is nothing as nice as a cheerful word of greetings.

2.         Smile at people.  It takes 72 muscles to frown, only 14 to smile.

3.         Call people by name.  The sweetest music to anyone's ears is the sound of his own name.

4.         Be friendly and helpful.  If you want to have friends, be friendly.

5.         Be cordial.  Speak and act as if everything you do were a genuine pleasure.

6.         Be genuinely interested in people.  You can like       everybody if you try.

7.         Be generous with praise and cautious with criticism.

8.         Be considerate with the feelings of others.  It will be appreciated.

9.         Be thoughtful of the opinion of others.  There are three sides to every controversy - yours, the other fellow's and the right one.

10.         Be alert to give service.  What counts most in life is what we do for others.

Mission and Values

By Tim Noel, Chief Mission Officer

Part of the joy of my job is that it is new to me.  I have been given the gift of a new beginning, unencumbered either by the failures or the successes of the past.  A fresh start!  What a precious gift!  And don't we all need that grace for our lives?  It is in our power to grant that gift to those around us.  Whatever has happened in the past, let people know with a word, or a nod, or a smile, that today is a new day, full of hope and possibility.  As you give to others, it will be given to you as well.

EMRMC Fund-raiser:  Clark to dye his beard

Ephraim McDowell Health CEO Clark Taylor is taking a brave step to raise funds for the Heart of Kentucky United Way.  He has agreed to dye his beard either blue and white (Danville's school colors) or black and gold (Boyle County's school colors), and to wear it that way for one day before allowing someone to shave it off.  Here's how the fund-raiser will work:

á          Beginning September 15, the kick-off for this year's United Way campaign, individuals may drop money in one of two jars set up at the Cafeteria.  One jar will be a ÒvoteÓ for a blue and white beard and the other jar will be a ÒvoteÓ for a black and gold beard.  Money will be collected in the jars through Wednesday, October 6.

á          On Thursday, October 7, Clark will dye his beard the colors that earned the most money.  He will wear his two-toned beard until Friday, October 8, which is when EMRMC will host a wrap-up for the United Way campaign.  The wrap-up will also be a ÒShaving PartyÓ as one Associate wins the right to shave Clark's beard.

á          A silent auction will be held to take bids on who will shave Clark's beard.  Bids may be posted on a sheet available in the Cashier's Office through October 7.
