Take your workout indoors to McDowell Wellness Center
As the number of daylight hours grows fewer and temperatures
get cooler, many people who have been exercising outside
may want to take their workout indoors. McDowell Wellness
Center, located at 1107 Ben Ali Drive in Danville, offers
a variety of classes and programs for those who want
to continue their workouts indoors.
–While we have the traditional strength training equipment
and aerobics classes, we also offer unique classes and
programs to make working out both fun and challenging,”
said Robert Jameson, manager at McDowell Wellness Center.
One of the more popular classes is Spinning. This
group cycling exercise class improves an individual's
cardiovascular conditioning. It involves riding a stationary
bike that has a weighted wheel to challenge the rider.
Spinning is an intense workout and may not be appropriate
for all ages. Classes are free to members, or $5 per
class to non-members.
Another challenging workout is the six-week Boot Camp.
A session is currently under way, and both indoor and
outdoor sessions will be offered beginning December
6. This is a basic training class comprised of exercises
that are used to train military personnel. These include
push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, crunches, up-downs,
running and a pool workout. Class size is limited, so
advance sign-up is recommended. The cost is $25 for
members and $50 for non-members.
The Wellness Center also offers personal training
services for those who need assistance in developing
a workout program that is best suited to their needs.
Personal training services are also available in aquatics
for those who want to include the Wellness Center's
pool in their workout program.
Individuals who may be interested in losing weight
while they exercise may be interested in the WELL for
Life program. WELL for Life helps individuals learn
how to manage their weight while making exercise and
a healthy diet a part of their lifestyle. The cost is
$96 for the 12-week program for McDowell Wellness Center
members. The cost for non-members is $246, which includes
a three-month membership. Non-members who choose to
continue their membership after completing the 12-week
program will not have to pay the enrollment fee.
The program consists of weekly weigh-ins, and participants
receive a journal for tracking the foods they eat. Other
components of the program are guest speakers, recipe
sharing, nutritional counseling and fitness counseling.
Class size is limited and advance registration is required.
