Surgery, Vascular

Surgical techniques are used to repair, reconstruct and correct deformities, defects and diseased parts of the body. To provide the best care, a surgeon participates in the preoperative care of the patient, conducting examinations, clinical tests and X-rays. Vascular surgeons use angiography and ultrasound to evaluate vascular insufficiency, a cause of numerous disorders, and to diagnose and treat diseased or injured arteries and veins. Vascular surgeons must complete the same requirements as the general surgeon - a minimum of five years of surgical training beyond medical school - plus two years of training in vascular surgery.
