Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is a specialty that uses surgical techniques to repair and restore function or reconstruct and correct deformities or defects in all areas of the body. This specialty also includes cosmetic surgery, which uses similar techniques to enhance the appearance of the face and body. Board-certified plastic surgeons must graduate from an accredited medical school, complete an intense accredited general surgery and plastic surgery training program of at least five to seven years, and pass comprehensive oral and written examinations. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body.
