Education Assistance Program

We are committed to hiring the best Associates for the positions we have available, and we value those Associates who are interested in continuing their education. That’s why we offer:

EMH Health Care Scholarship

This scholarship is available to high school seniors and college students from Boyle, Casey, Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer and Washington counties. Candidates must be in the top 25% of their class, have a minimum ACT score of 21 or SAT score of 1000, and be accepted at a regionally accredited college or university. College students must have completed undergraduate educational requirements and be accepted into a professional health career program recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health.

$1,000 is paid directly to the college or university for high school students, renewable for the second semester if the recipient earns a 2.5 or higher GPA during the initial semester; $2,000 is paid directly to the college or university for college students, renewable for the second semester if the recipient earns a 3.0 or higher GPA during the initial semester.

Additional Scholarships

Additional scholarships are available through the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary and Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital Auxiliary.

  • Sherry Colleen Durbin Memorial Scholarship – available to a high school senior in Boyle County who has been accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is a minimum of $500 for one semester.
  • Keith & Vicki A. Darnell Scholarship – available to a high school senior from Boyle, Casey, Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer and Washington counties who has been accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health, with preference given to students pursuing a BSN degree.  The award is $500 for one semester.
  • Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Health Care Scholarship – available to a high school senior in Boyle County who has been accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $1,000 for the first semester, renewable for the second semester if the recipient earns a 2.5 or higher GPA. The award may be given to one Danville High School senior and one Boyle County High School senior.
  • Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary Health Care Scholarship – available to a high school senior in Lincoln County who has been accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $1,000 for the first semester, renewable for the second semester if the recipient earns a 2.5 or higher GPA.
  • Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital Auxiliary Health Care Scholarship – available to a high school senior in Mercer County who has been accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $500 for the first semester.  Awards may be given to one Mercer County High School senior and one Burgin Independent High School senior.
  • Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Teen Scholarship – available to a high school senior who participates or has participated in the Teen Volunteer Program at EMRMC.  Student must be accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $500 for one semester.
  • Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary Teen Scholarship – available to a high school senior who participates or has participated in the Teen Volunteer Program at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital.  Student must be accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $500 for one semester.
  • Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital Auxiliary Team Member Scholarship – available to any Associate at Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital who has been accepted to an in-state college or university to study any of the health care career programs recognized by Ephraim McDowell Health. The award is $500 for one semester.

Applications

Applications must be submitted by March 15.  Children of EMH Associates will be given preference.  To apply, please click here to download the application and then mail it to us once it is completed.

Loan Repayment Plan

  • Submit an Application for Advance Approval to receive Education Assistance before enrollment in area of study.
  • All loan payments will be paid directly to the lending agency at the University of Kentucky tuition rate, if approved by Human Resources in advance. These payments include tuition and laboratory fees only.
  • Loan payments must be for an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college or university, in a program of study for a hard-to-fill position.
  • The lesser of 20% or $3,600 per year of the tuition loans will be repaid for full-time Associates based on the University of Kentucky tuition rate. For part-time Associates the rate is 10% up to $1,800 per year.
  • Associates must have completed the 90-day orientation period, received an acceptable performance summary, and must be working in the position for which the degree was obtained.
  • A Student Loan Repayment application must be submitted to your director.

Tuition Reimbursement Program for Hard-to-Fill Positions

  • Submit an Application for Advance Approval to receive Education Assistance before enrollment in area of study.
  • Must have 5 years of service and maximized your borrowing of student loans and submit proof of ineligibility for additional funds, or if you are a licensed Associate pursuing a Bachelors degree or advanced degree.
  • Must be an Associate (full-time and part-time I) in an EMH hard-to-fill position.
  • Submit a Tuition Reimbursement form before the beginning of each semester.
  • If approved, after the semester is over, submit a copy of the paid invoice along with an official transcript. Grades must be turned in within 60 days after the course ends. For undergrad degrees grades must be “C” or above. For graduate degrees grades must be “B” or above.
  • Must have completed the 90-day orientation period with an acceptable performance summary.
  • Associates will be required to sign a work repayment agreement.
  • Tuition Reimbursement will be limited to a maximum of $5,250 per calendar year for full-time Associates and $2,625 per calendar year for part-time Associates.
